Welcome to Class 4
Summer Term 2023
Welcome back to the summer term. I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break.
Class Four are taught by Mrs Donnelly-Stott (Monday) and Mrs Thornton (Tuesday-Friday). We are looking forward to welcoming Miss Monteverde to work with our class as a student teacher during this term. We also have French lessons with Miss Walsh on Wednesdays and Guitar with Mr Johnson on Fridays.
This term, PE will take place on Thursdays and Fridays. In PE we will have Cricket and Rounder’s sessions. Please remember to have a suitable PE kit in school every day as we do make occasional changes. Please include a warm outdoor PE kit, a clean indoor kit and spare socks.
This term we will be learning about ‘Fairtrade’ and ‘Ghana in Africa’ with a super African photo presentation later in the term. In English we will be studying ‘Skellig’ and we are also looking forward to starting our new ‘Bright Stars 2023’ business enterprise project which will be lots of fun!
In Science we will be learning about ‘Electricity’, ‘Genetics’ and our 'Changing bodies'.
Spelling – New spellings for this term will be available on our class web page - please see- Class 4 Page of the school website via the following pathway: Children>Class pages>Class 4
Within spelling we will continue with repeating 10 spelling words and add 5 new spellings each week to further consolidate the learning as we did last term.
Spellings will be linked onto Google Classroom and will also be uploaded onto Spelling Shed. Spelling Shed should be accessed and practised at home regularly.
Guided reading – We will be continuing to read ‘There’s a boy in the girls bathroom’ this term on Wednesdays or Thursdays in class. The children will be given homework based on the text which will usually include some reading to do at home as well. Children are also expected to read daily at home from their own chosen text which they should log on the ‘Boom Reader’ App.
Homework – Homework will be available on Google Classroom and should be submitted on there every week to be marked.
Maths – Please continue to help your child learn all of their times tables. The children can also practise these using ‘Times Table Rockstars’ (the fun games website school subscribes to; each child has a log in for this). They will have a tables test each Friday alongside a Big Maths test – the Learn It’s are based on the previous week’s test.
Maths homework will continue to be set on Google Classroom on a Monday to be completed for the following Monday and submitted online.
Equipment – please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle every Monday to keep in school. Water bottles will stay in school during the week and be sent home on Fridays. No pencil cases will be needed as the children will have their own pen pack in school. As always please ensure all clothing and shoes are clearly labelled. The children will need to bring in their guitars every Friday and they will take them home after school that day as well to practise at home.
We’re all looking forward to seeing you and having an exciting new term at school.
