Welcome to Class 4
Autumn Term 2020
Dear Class 4,
I hope you are well and managed to enjoy the Summer. We are really looking forward to having you all back in school, and whilst some things may seem a little different, be assured we will be following a full curriculum and enjoying our time learning together.
In Class Four we are taught by Mrs Donnelly-Stott (Monday) and Mrs Dobinson (Tuesday- Friday). We also have French lessons with Miss Walsh on Wednesdays and Guitar lessons on Friday mornings with Mr Haythornthwaite.
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays but remember to have a kit in school every day as we do make occasional changes. Please have warm PE clothes as this will be outside as much as possible. You will also need your trainers for Mile-a-day which will be at 8.50am.
This term our topic is all about the Border Reivers. We will be learning about life in Reiver times and hope to visit both Tullie House and Carlisle Castle. We will also be learning about OS maps and how the border has changed over the course of history, as well as studying the Water Cycle. In our Science lessons we will begin by learning about electricity and how to build circuits. We will be learning to animate in our computing sessions.
Spelling- New spellings for this term are now available on the website under the following pathway: Children>Class pages>Class 4
Guided reading – This will take place on Wednesdays in class. Children will be given homework based on the text which will usually include some reading too. Children are also expected to read daily from their chosen text.
Maths- Please continue to help your child to learn all their tables. They will have a tables test each Friday alongside a Big Maths test – the Learn Its are based on the previous week’s test. Maths homework will continue to be sent home on a Monday to be completed for the following Monday.
Guitar – Class 4 will begin guitar lessons on a Friday morning. Once instruments have been issued pupils are responsible for their safety and care. They must be brought to school every Friday and kept at home in between lessons.
Looking forward to seeing you all back at school.
