Welcome to Year 3 and 4!

This year in Class 3, we are taught by Mrs Johnson on a Monday, Wednesday-Friday and Mrs Murphy on a Tuesday. On a Wednesday we have French with Miss Walsh and Music with Mrs Thornton.

We have a really exciting term to look forward to with lots of things planned as the year get underway!

Maths  In maths we continue to learn times tables and learn its for Big Maths. Year 3 should know x10, x2, x5, x3, x4 and x8 by the end of this year. Year 4 should know all their times tables up to 12 x 12 by June this academic year. We also send Busy Ants maths homework to support what is taught in school.

English In English this term we start with looking at one of my favourite authors, Roald Dahl. We will be studying the beautify poetry book; The Lost Words and learning about Non-fiction writing, how to use dictionaries and other reference books to discover amazing facts. We love to reading in Class 3, especially for pleasure - and we have a wide range of fantastic fiction books as well as a great range of The Week Junior magazine and First News to keep up-to-date with what's happening around the world (Non-fiction.) If your child has any magazines that they would like to donate to our library then please bring these into class for others to enjoy.

Science

In Science this term we are studying the changes that occur during the seasons as well as the properties of materials. We will be carrying out lots of great experiments to test different states and melting/freezing points. Looking at materials that change permanently with heat and those that can change back again when cooled. We will become real Scientists choosing what to investigate from the questions we create.

Topic

This term we are very excited to be learning about History and the Romans. With the impact of the Roman Empire on Britain. We will be learning about how historians piece together clues from the past and turn these into knowledge so we can discover what it was like to live in these times. We will be using our Geographical skills to plot where the Roman's travelled and the countries they conquered across Europe and beyond.

Spellings and Times Tables

On a Friday each week, we have spellings and times tables tests. The children will build up to 15 spellings a week which are based on a spelling pattern, but we will be repeating 5 of these spellings to help the children to retain their spellings more consistently and these will rotate. The spellings are at the end of this page and they will be on the 'spelling shed' website each week so the children can learning them in a fun and interactive way.

PE will take place on Monday and Thursday this term but remember to have a kit in school every day as we do often make changes. This term we are doing Cricket and Athletics. Please have PE kit as we will be outside as much as possible. You will also need your trainers for Mile-a-day, which will be at 8.50am every day.

Homework

  • In Class 3, children should continue to read for at least 5 mins every day, we have a sticker chart in the classroom to show when they read at home.
  • Guided Reading - each week, this will be uploaded onto Google Drive on a Tuesday and children will have a week to complete their maths sheet and Guided Reading homework.
  • Maths - also weekly, a maths sheet will be available on Google Drive on a Friday, this is connected to the concepts we have covered that week in our maths lessons.
  • Friday - Spelling test/Times tables test & Big Maths Beat That tests will be held each week on a Friday. Please learn spellings and times tables everyday to ensure good knowledge of both
  • The whole terms spellings are at the bottom of this page and children can also use spelling shed to learn them each week.

We can’t wait to have you all back for a very exciting start to the summer term!
