Class 3

Welcome to Class 3           Autumn 2020

Dear Class 3,

Welcome back to school and to Class 3. I hope you are all well and have had a nice summer. It is lovely to have you all back in school and well done for getting used to the slight changes.

In Class 3 we are taught by Mrs Thornton (Mondays) and Mrs Johnson (Tuesday - Friday) with Miss Byres and Mrs Murphy supporting us. On a Wednesday we have French with Miss Walsh and Music with Mrs Dobinson.

PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays but remember to have a kit in school every day as we do make occasional changes. Please have warm PE kit as we will be outside as much as possible. You will also need your trainers for Mile-a-day, which will be at 8.50am every day.

Topic :This term we are excited to be studying the Romans, looking at where they conquered and important figures from that era. We will link this with studying Europe and the UK in Geography later in the term.

In Science we start with ‘Our changing world’ looking at the changes in autumn and then we are studying ‘Who am I?’

English To start the term we are studying on of my favourite authors; Roald Dahl and will look at a selection of his fabulous books. We will also be looking at these for Guided Reading.

Maths Please continue to learn your times tables and learn its for Big Maths, Year 3 should know x10, x2, x5, x3, x4 and x8 by the end of this year. Year 4 should know all their times tables up to 12 x 12 by June this academic year. We also send Busy Ants maths homework to support what is taught in school.

Reading, Spellings and Times Tables

  • In Class 3 children should continue to read for at least 5 mins every day, we have a sticker chart in the classroom to show when they read at home.
  • Monday – spelling test – the weekly spelling test will now be on Mondays – please see the class website for spellings.
  • Friday – times tables test & Big Maths Beat That test

We are looking forward to a little normality and an exciting term ahead in class 3.
